Criteria for Admissions and Fees

As the school implements the CAPS Curriculum, the criteria for admission is that the child must be capable of benefitting from the education and small environment offered at Newton House School.

1. Newton House School specialises in assisting children with specific academic challenges and the intellect to progress towards Grade 12 and write the National Senior Certificate Exam with the necessary support. Based on the recommendations of the Educational Psychologist, concessions are provided to those students who qualify for such. The School also accepts students who do not have academic challenges, but who thrive in smaller learning environments.

2. Any application for admission received will be carefully considered by the Headmaster/Headmistress.

3. Recommendations are based on the student profile and the level of support required. At the time of the appointment the school will ask the parents to bring certain documentation with them (i.e. school reports) to the interview.

4. The School is not equipped to address the following specific needs:
(a) Deafness
(b) Blindness
(c) Severe intellect impairment.
(d) Severe physical disabilities as the terrain is very sloped.
(e) Oppositional Defiance Disorder or similar conduct disorder
(f) Severe Autism
(g) Over-aged students who are no longer of compulsory school age.

5. The age norm for grades as stipulated by the Department of Education, is adhered to.

• Valid study permit (student)
• Relevant residency permit (parents) or refugee status documents (refugee status does not qualify applicant for
exemption from paying school fees).
